There's something for everyone in Dorchester County. Step back in time…imagine the life of slaves and the challenges Harriet Tubman overcame in the pursuit of freedom. Listen to the chitty-chitty-bang-bang of the last operational mother- of- pearl button machinery in the United States. Enjoy a cruise as you learn about the life of the watermen, the history of a seaport community and tour a crab processing plant. Stop by some of our family farms and pick up fresh farm to table seasonal delights. Don’t get us started on some of the best seafood and produce you have ever eaten! Meander along Wildlife Drive at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and stop in their Visitor Center or- get out on the water! Enjoy walking tours in historic communities, and driving tours to quaint waterfront villages and our islands. Our rising Arts and Entertainment movement will round out a fabulous Eastern Shore Getaway that you won’t soon forget- all in the Heart of the Chesapeake!

The Visit Dorchester Audio Tour Guide invites visitors to immerse themselves in the rich history, culture and traditions of the Heart of Chesapeake Country Heritage Area. The free cell phone app features a suite of three self-guided walking and driving tours. They cover the Chesapeake Mural Trail, Downtown Cambridge history and the history of the African-American Pine Street community.
