2-6pm: Yock cock-off and celebration in the Park. 700 Douglas Street (The Cornish Park). What is yock? It’s a local delicacy. In Cambridge, you can often find it featured at community gatherings, church fundraisers, and backyard cookouts rather than on standard sit-down restaurant menus. Chesapeake Bay magazine even wrote a story about yock and its regional variations. As the magazine writes, “Cambridge yock… is made from spaghetti noodles, tomato-based sauce, soy, and sometimes Worcestershire sauce. Added to the mix is a choice of meat, a squirt of ketchup, some onions, and a hard-boiled egg to top off the dish. It is seasoned with salt and pepper, hot sauce, and tomato sauce on top.” That’s as described by Veronica Taylor, head of the Groove City Black Heritage & Culture Group.
6-8pm: March over to Bethel AME Church. Dedication of Community Garden hosted by Blackwater Rising.
