The 1877 tall ship Elissa stops in Cambridge with free deck tours June 20-21. The Elissa is scheduled to arrive around 8am on Saturday and depart the morning of Tuesday, June 23. Deck tours are 12-5pm on Saturday and Sunday. The historic ship will be anchored at Sailwinds Park at Cambridge Harbor (near 200 Byrn St., Cambridge, MD).

The Elissa is on its way to New York to join the largest-ever flotilla of tall ships from around the world for a universal celebration of America's 250th anniversary on July 4.

Here's a little more of the back story: Galveston Historical Foundation brought Elissa, an 1877 square-rigged iron barque, from a scrapyard in Piraeus Harbor, Greece to Galveston to begin restoration work in 1978. By 1982, GHF staff and volunteers completed restoration and transformed this rare, historic vessel into a floating museum that would actively sail.
