With its pines and tidal marsh, this 920-acre Nature Conservancy preserve is a birder’s delight, with undisturbed waterfowl habitat and a sanctuary for bald eagles. May is the best time for birdwatching, when migration is at a peak; summer brings a proliferation of flowering plants and marsh grasses (and a lot of biting insects, so be prepared). In fall, see migrating birds, especially warblers and puddle ducks. There is a 1.25-mile, one-way nature trail, and the preserve is open year-round. You can download a self-guided audio tour and/or the visitor’s guide on the Robinson Preserve website. Beware of poison ivy. Note: dogs are not allowed. The preserve is located on Taylors Island, Maryland. Check the website for directions. Read more about the preserve in this article from Bay Journal.
