Guided Walk to Commemorate Harriet Tubman's First Escape

Guided Walk to Commemorate Harriet Tubman's First Escape

Oct 25, 2026 • 10:00 am

Take part in a meaningful walk down Harrisville Road, the place of Harriet Tubman's birth on Oct. 25 starting at 10am. The walk commemorates Tubman's first attempts to walk to freedom between September and October 1849. This will be a narrated history tour led by the Harriet Tubman Museum and Educational Center. Free to join (though donations are definitely appreciated). Find out more and register here.

Harriet Tubman was born in Dorchester County, Maryland in 1822 and lived here for her first 27 years, learning skills that she would use when she herself escaped from slavery to freedom, and later when she returned, time and again, to lead family and friends to freedom.

After the walk, there will be a concert with David B. Cole and Mainstreet Blues at nearby Emily's Produce.
