From 2 to 4pm on Oct. 23, authors Phil Hesser and Charlie Ewers will talk about their search through landscapes and memory for Harriet Tubman's home in Dorchester and how it testifies to our own search for home in the changing lands and common ground in the turbulent world of the 21st century. The event takes place in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and Visitor Center in Church Creek, Maryland.
This inaugural three-day charity bike Oct. 24-26 will draw dozens of supporters and cyclists to raise funds for ALYN Hospital, Israel’s only pediatric rehabilitation center. The 130-mile ride tours the Eastern Shore of Maryland taking riders on the historic roads of Chesapeake Bay and the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.
ALYN Hospital is one of the world’s leading pediatric hospitals, providing innovative care and producing life-changing pediatric assistive technologies for children around the world. The $500 registration fee covers accommodations for the three-day event at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort, breakfasts, lunches, a dinner reception and more. Registered cyclists pledge to raise $2,500 each.
Bring the pups for a day of fun at Governor's Hall, Sailwinds Park! Registration starts at 9am and begins with a blessing of all dogs and a parade of all dogs and their owners at 10am. Dogs must be at least 6 months old and on a leash in order to compete. The first category entry is $5; additional categories are $4 each. A raffle features gift certificates from many local businesses.
