about us
The Ruark Boatworks is part of the Richardson Maritime Museum (which is temporarily closed as plans are made for the future; a transitional museum display is expected to open to the public in early 2024), located in a repurposed century-old barn at their Cambridge Creek waterfront site. Visitors are welcome to watch and participate as volunteers work on restoring and building traditional wooden vessels. The volunteers work on other boats, as new projects arise, both as educational programs and as contracted work for individuals who have found the Boatworks to be one of the few remaining facilities to authentically build or repair wooden Chesapeake Bay boats.
Boatworks is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11am-2pm or by appointment. Hours are subject to change. Please call ahead for confirmation at 410-221-8844.
Come and join in – even lend a hand! Tour groups welcome by appointment; call 410-221-1871.
