August 30, 2021
The Heart of Chesapeake Country Heritage Area is currently accepting nominations for the Rising Up Awards, which celebrate the organizations and individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to preserving and promoting our heritage.
These special recognition awards honor the Dorchester County businesses, non-profit heritage organizations and individuals who have created or strengthened heritage tourism products, such as events, exhibits or destinations. Their extraordinary efforts are evidenced in the programs, projects and ideas that have served to aid, enrich and inspire the Dorchester community during the past year. The following awards will be presented in person at the Heritage Awards event this fall:
- Heritage Individual Achievement, which recognizes a person for his/her contributions to the heritage community by interpreting, preserving, promoting, researching and/or supporting local history and cultural traditions.
- Heritage Organizational Excellence, which recognizes an organization or local government entity that demonstrates achievement in contributing to heritage preservation, promotion, interpretation or tourism efforts.
- Heritage Business Award, which recognizes a for-profit partner that demonstrates sustained commitment to heritage preservation and/or promotion, including historic preservation, cultural or natural resource stewardship, advocacy, or heritage tourism opportunities in the Heart of Chesapeake Country.
- Heritage Outstanding Project, which recognizes an exceptional project, event or activity conducted/sponsored by an organization, business, individual or local government that highlights Dorchester’s natural or cultural heritage and/or increases public awareness of its history, heritage and cultural traditions.
All nominations will be reviewed/determined by internal selection committees from the Heart of Chesapeake Country Heritage Area. The awards will be presented in October in a public ceremony. Nomination forms must be received electronically, and the submission deadline is October 15, 2021. The nomination form is available online here.
