Join spoken word artist, poet, and acclaimed author of “Hummingbirds in the Trenches” Kondwani Fidel as he shares his story of growing up in inner city Baltimore with two parents addicted to drugs, and how reading, writing, and performing saved him. This free event happens Saturday, April 27 from 3 to 5pm at Maces Lane Middle School in Cambridge, MD

Kondwani not only performs along with other young people from Dorchester County, but also leads conversation around four questions youth need to talk about: Why take drugs? How might drugs make people feel? What can go wrong? What do we need? Free and open to the public, the event is presented in partnership with the Dorchester County Youth Action Council and with the participation of Maryland Coalition of Family’s Taking Flight Youth Program.

This event is part of Wellness in the Storm, a public awareness initiative that uses arts programming to engage our community and challenge the stigma associated with mental illness and substance use disorder. The Wellness in the Storm initiative features an art exhibition and four public programs during the month of April – all of which are free and open to the public.
