Ms. Ridah Casten Collins was a kindergarten teacher for more than 50 years, who operated her own school.  She started on Locust Street and was there until 1959 when she moved to Peachblossom Avenue.  She ran these classes in her home until she retired in 1972 at the age of 75.  On Saturday, September 21st, the Kindergarten Graduating Class of 1950 will play host to Miss Ridah’s Reunion at the Heritage Museums and Gardens of Dorchester from 11 am until 1 pm.

Judging from her handwritten, penciled records, it is easy to see why she did it and how so many who attended her class have very fond memories.  In Miss Ridah’s notebooks, she has listed her students and their birthdays.

Many of the class photos will be on display and most need identification.  Those who have their own class photos or attended Miss Ridah’s are encouraged to come and share the pictures and give identity to those unknown.

This reunion is intended as a forum for Miss Ridah’s alumni to share their memories, their friendships and what they learned during that brief time.  Whether they got to school in Miss Ridah’s large, converted old car or were dropped off, there are many stories out there.

The Heritage Museums and Gardens of Dorchester is operated by the Dorchester County Historical Society and is located at 1003 Greenway Drive in Cambridge.
