Be part of one of the world’s most grueling endurance events – right here in Dorchester County, Maryland! The IRONMAN Maryland triathlon on Sept. 17, 2022 challenges participants from all over the world to show their grit by making it through 140.6 miles all in one day: A 2.4 mile swim in the Choptank River, a 112-mile bike ride around Dorchester County, and a 26.2-mile run (the same as a full marathon!) in Cambridge. Spectators are welcome to cheer on the triathletes along the courses (where safe), at the transitions between swim and bike and bike to run at Gerry Boyle Park at Great Marsh in Cambridge, and at the finish line at Long Wharf Park (High and Water Streets). The swim begins just after sunrise, and the last triathletes cross the finish line around midnight.

See the Spectator Guide.

Volunteers are also needed in the days leading to the triathlon and on race day itself to make the race a success. Volunteers do everything from helping athletes check in to handing out water at aid stations to giving out medals at the finish line. See the volunteer opportunities here.
