 t is free and open to the public.\n\nIngersoll has been researching the H
 andsell Historic Site for 20\nyears. A founding trustee of the Nanticoke H
 istoric Preservation\nAlliance (NHPA)\, the nonprofit that manages Handsel
 l\, Ingersoll was\nfascinated by the site’s ties to Native\, African Ame
 rican\, and\nColonial American history. Located in Dorchester County near
  Vienna\,\nit has been added to the National Register of Historic Places 
 and\nbecome a popular destination for historians and tourists alike.\n“W
 hile the stories of the Native Chicacoan Village\, the English\nmerchant 
 saga\, and the Enslaved history have been told to visitors at\nHandsell\,
  it was time to put our research all together in one volume\nto share it w
 ith the public\,” says Ingersoll.\n\nHandsell: Three Cultures\, One Stor
 y gathers information from various\narchives\, court records\, family let
 ters\, and oral histories into a\ncompelling narrative. The book brings on
 ce-obscure local histories to\nlight\, documenting significant events and 
 important cultural\nconnections. Ingersoll hopes it generates more interes
 t in Handsell\nand additional research into its past. All profits from her
  book\,\nwhich sells for $20\, will be donated to NHPA to help defray the\
 nsite’s maintenance and operating costs.\n\nThe Harriet Tubman Museum an
 d Educational is dedicated to celebrating\nthe legacy of Harriet Tubman a
 nd providing an interpretive history of\nher achievement. The Dorchester-b
 ased nonprofit offers guided walking\ntours\, group tours\, and education
 al programs relating to Tubman. It\nalso advocates for families\, promote
 s historic preservation\, and hosts\nevents highlighting the rich heritag
