DESCRIPTION:The Nanticoke Historic Preservation Alliance is hosting Amplify
 ing the\nVoices\, a three-day symposium (October 22-24) on interpreting co
 mplex\nhistories. This special event will take place at NHPA's new Three\n
 Cultures Center at the Handsell Historic Site near Vienna.\n\nThe third da
 y of the event on Oct. 24 features a full day of living\nhistory interpret
 ation from 10am to 4pm. It will feature the\nInalienable Rights Interprete
 rs and other professional living history\npresenters and include powerful 
 stories\, traditional songs\, and crafts\ndemonstrations. Open to the publ
 ic\, the family friendly event will\nalso include a food truck\, hands-on 
 colonial games and activities for\nchildren.\n\nAmplifying the Voices will
  look at how historical narratives and myths\nare created\, whose perspect
 ives have traditionally been most visible\,\nand how interpreters can resp
 onsibly approach histories that are\ncomplex\, difficult\, or incomplete. 
 It will also examine the deep\nconnections between Indigenous peoples\, en
 slaved Africans and African\nAmericans\, and Colonial/settler communities.
 \n\nThe three-day program reflects a growing commitment within the public\
 nhistory field to recognize the humanity\, agency\, and contributions of\n
 historically marginalized people. Amplifying the Voices will be\nfacilitat
 ed by Joseph McGill\, founder and executive director of the\nSlave Dwellin
 g Project\, and Dontavius Williams\, founder of The\nChronicles of Adam. D
 rawing upon their extensive experience in\nhistorical interpretation and p
 ublic engagement\, McGill and Williams\nwill lead an immersive exploration
  of how historic places can more\nfully acknowledge the people and communi
 ties connected to their past.\n\nDay One (Thursday\, October 22) programmi
 ng will be geared towards\nstaff and volunteers from historical organizati
 ons and preservation\ngroups.\n\nDay Two (Friday\, October 23) programs wi
 ll be open to organizations\nand the general public. The morning session w

 rican Humanities\nProject team. The afternoon session will feature testim
