2022 Nanticoke River Jamboree

Loading Events

Handsell Historic Site hosts its annual Nanticoke River Jamboree on October 8, 2022 from 10am to 5pm to celebrate the natural and historic resources of the Nanticoke River watershed area and three cultures who have occupied this land – Native People, African Enslaved, and Colonial Settlers. Each year the family-friendly Jamboree features exhibits and demonstration by regional environmental and historic groups, a variety of living history performers and demonstrations by spinners, sheep-shearers, wood turners, open hearth cooks and more!  In addition you will find music, food and activities for the whole family.

The 2022 theme will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Harriet Tubman, born in Dorchester County, Maryland. The Jamboree will explore “Tilley’s Escape” when Harriet used the Nanticoke River to help a young woman named Tilley flee enslavement.

Admission to the Jamboree is $5 per adult; children 12 and under free.

Also, there’s the “Three Cultures Dinner” at Handsell, following the Jamboree.  Dinner is prepared by the Handsell kitchen. Dinner starts around 5:15pm, and advance tickets are required. Limited seating. Buy tickets.
