Historical Society | Visit Dorchester

The Dorchester County Historical Society (DCHS) campus celebrates the area’s folklore, traditions, heritage, ancestry, and more. With a focus on farming life, it includes an 18th-century strong house, a combination wheelwright/blacksmith shop, and formal herbal gardens. The DCHS’s museum houses exhibits on Dorchester’s canning industry, timbering, marine trades, hunting and trapping, War of 1812, and Native Americans. Also featured on the campus is the Meredith House (c.1760) with artifacts and exhibits supporting family life in Dorchester County through time. Genealogy and family history research assistance is available in the research library. Visitors can enjoy the waterfront walk over Shoal Creek and relax on the beautiful waterside porch. Open Monday through Saturday, 10am-4pm. Admission is $5 per person over 12 years old.

DCHS also offers Heritage Teas for 15 up to 50 people with costumed docents in the Meredith House. You can even add a guided tour of the campus. Learn more.
