COVID-19 UPDATE: In response to Gov. Hogan’s order, the visitor center at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is temporarily closed for two weeks starting December 21, 2020. Conditions will be re-assessed after the two weeks. Wildlife Drive and the walking trails are still open from sunrise to sunset. There are port-o-pots near the entrance to Wildlife Drive and further along the drive at the entrance to Woods Trail.
The two-floor Visitor Center includes wildlife exhibits, spotting scopes, a butterfly garden, TV monitors to view the Eagle and Osprey Cams, helpful brochures, restrooms, a book and gift shop, and more.
In normal times, Visitor Center hours are 9am to 4pm daily. The Visitor Center is closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
