about us

Blackwater Adventures is your one-stop outfitter for your outdoor entertainment, offering both equipment and guided tours.
They operate out of two locations—one in the beautiful Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, and the other at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort (open to the public).
At the Blackwater location, they’re housed in an old cannery, where they offer:
- Kayak rentals (single & tandem)
- Bicycle rentals
- Guided cycling and paddling tours (focus on nature or history); moonlight paddles; some tours include wine tasting at Layton’s Chance Winery
At the Hyatt beach location (open Memorial Day through Labor Day), they offer to the general public (not just resort guests):
- Rentals of jet skis, catamarans, paddle boats, powerboats, kayaks, fishing kayaks, stand-up paddleboards (SUP), and more.
They also offer step-on bus guides and local historic and nature tours.
Blackwater Adventures caters to 1 person or large groups. Disabled individuals are welcome and they are pet friendly. They offer delivery of our equipment to local families or to visitors in the area renting vacation homes a multiple day discount.
For guests to Dorchester County bringing their own bikes and kayaks they offer maps with our favorite bike and kayaking routes, and emergency pick-up service for bikers who need assistance and for kayakers who would like to paddle bridge to bridge.
The staff includes licensed Coast Guard Captains and ACA certified kayak instructors. They are a member of the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, with certified bike and kayak Underground Railroad tours.
Their Blackwater Shuttle Service offers shuttle service for weddings, groups, or any sort of outing. Call for details.
Their motto is “Come to the place where nature just loves to show off for you!” Dorchester County, Maryland is rich in early American history and hosts the second largest concentration of bald eagles on the East Coast, along with several endangered species of animals and plants.
