Watch a race of skipjacks from throughout the Chesapeake Bay, hosted by Cambridge’s ambassador skipjack, Nathan of Dorchester, on Saturday, September 23. One of only two skipjack races left on the Bay, this is a unique opportunity to view as many as 8 or 10 of these traditional vessels in one location. Each race is unique with these fast-disappearing icons of the Chesapeake competing in a swift or leisurely event, depending upon the wind.

The beautiful Choptank River provides a perfect course for the race, offering great views from its banks. A race festival begins at 8:30am, with a parade of boats at 9am out of Cambridge Creek. The race itself begins around 10am, depending on weather conditions. The parade and start and finish are best viewed from Long Wharf Park (near High and Water Streets in Cambridge, MD), where there will be bleachers, food and gift vendors. A radio-controlled skipjack regatta will take place from the docks at Long Wharf, providing competitive entertainment while the full-size skipjacks are on the middle legs of their race.

The Nathan of Dorchester does NOT take passengers along during the race. For more information, visit the race pages on the Nathan‘s website,
